A few years ago, we were cited as one of “The City’s Eighth Best Kept Secrets” by one of the country’s leading newspaper.
Indeed, we are like a secret little hotel nestled behind a busy main street by a lush tropical garden with towering mango trees.
And we have an interesting story to tell……
The Orchid Garden Suites was built in 1935 by the Philippine Supreme Court Justice Antonio Villa-Real as a home for his family. Facing what used to be a beautiful Harrison Park, the area was literally the “Park Avenue” of its time where the city’s elite built mansions. It was designed by Philippine National Artist for Architecture, Pablo Antonio in his own brand of Art Deco.
Damaged in the “Liberation of Manila” at the end of the Second World War, it was faithfully restored for the family by Architect Antonio. Subsequently, it served as a home for many interesting personalities and even the Russian and Indonesian embassies.
In 1995, the family decided to convert it into a hotel, thus “Orchid Garden Suites, Manila” was born.
In 2006 the building was also nominated for the “UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Preservation.”
Our respect for heritage and history doesn’t end there.
We invite you to be a part of our story and history.
